BENEFITS OF EPOXY FLOORING
YOU SHOULD CONSIDER EPOXY FOR YOUR NEXT FLOORING PROJECT.
Epoxy has been around for quite a while. In fact, it can be traced back to the 1930’s when it was invented and used for protecting the paint on boats and then later in the 1950’s when the epoxy was used as an adhesive in construction. Now, it’s known for its use as a floor material and homeowners agree it does its job amazingly well. Here are just a few of the reasons you should consider epoxy for your next flooring project:
STAIN RESISTANT
Garage epoxy floors are popular and there’s a reason why. The epoxy is highly resistant to stains and grime.
In fact, it’s easy to clean an oil spill from the floor without leaving a stain behind. So a car leaking oil in a garage that has an epoxy floor doesn’t have to mean the end of the world.
DURABLE
VERSATILE
Whether you’re looking for simple and clean or intricate and decorative, epoxy flooring can be the right fit for you. There are plenty of methods that we can use to add colors, metallics, flakes, and more to make the floor of your dreams. That’s why you find epoxy flooring in everything from hotel lobbies to school and hospital hallways.

Q: How much does an epoxy floor cost?
A: There are a lot of factors that contribute to the final cost of an epoxy floor. The national average is between $600 and $4,200 depending on square feet, colors, flakes, quality of the epoxy resin, and more. Call us to get a more exact quote for your specific project and see what your options are to stay within a set project budget.
Q: How is the price of an epoxy floor compared to other flooring materials?
A: As we said in response to the previous question, an epoxy floor will cost between $600 and $4,200 depending on the specifics of your desired floor. But that’s actually not bad when compared to other flooring options. The national average for a new hardwood floor of the same square feet is $1,500 and $10,000. And carpeting can come in upward of $4,500. What makes epoxy flooring especially stand out for pricing is that it doesn’t need costly cleaning and lasts far longer than other flooring options. So epoxy is a great budget option!
Q: How is the garage floor prepped prior to putting down the epoxy?
A: To ensure your new epoxy floor will last the longest time possible, there is a process that has to be gone through before we can start the work. Here are just some of the steps we might have to consider depending on what we find when we examine your concrete floor base:
CLEANING
The epoxy resin is designed to attach to the concrete base directly. Because of this, we have to ensure the concrete doesn’t have any other coatings, treatments, or resins already on it. If it does, we’ll have to remove them either through buffing, hosing, or even chemicals depending on what it is. If the concrete is clear of any coatings, then it may still need cleaning to make sure it is ready and debris free.
REMOVE DEFECTS
Cracks in concrete are no good for laying epoxy flooring. The epoxy will fall into the crack and could either expand the crack now or later which would destroy your new floor.
So we have to make sure all cracks and defects are repaired and gone before we pour the resin on top.
BUFFING
When your assigned technician is examining the concrete, he or she might recommend buffing the concrete. This is when we bring in our professional grade buffer that is covered in tiny abrasive crystals. The crystals help remove a thin layer of the concrete to make it shiny, smooth, and even. It makes the epoxy process much easier and helps ensure an even, smooth surface when the epoxy is dried.
Q: How long does it take to install an epoxy floor?
A: Epoxy floors can take more time than other floors because the resin is applied in coats. It’s very similar to nail polish. You put on the first coat, allow it to dry completely, and then apply a second or third coat depending on the height needed and the colors and designs of the floor. The process can take anywhere from two to five days, but our goal at Arizona Concrete Repair is to get it done as quickly as possible while still doing the job correctly. Because we understand you have a busy schedule and don’t want to wait forever for your new floor.
Q: How long before I can walk on the floor?
A: Once the final coating of epoxy resin has been applied, it’s best to wait 24 hours. While many of our resins can withstand foot traffic within 18, it’s safer to simply give it a full day to set and dry to get the best results. And furniture and equipment can also be moved onto the floor after 24 hours as well in most cases. Ask you assigned technician to get a guaranteed time frame. Some resins may take longer or shorter. For example, it’s been shown that resin exposed to colder temperatures, such as in a garage at winter time, may need longer to fully set.
Q: Is the floor slippery when it gets wet and what can I do to avoid this?
A: While epoxy floors have very few downsides, slipperiness can be one of them. Because epoxy floors are very smooth, water and oil can cause the surface to become slick if you’re not wearing the proper shoes. If this is a large concern for you, then ask us about a slip-resistant additive for your new floor. The additive helps reduce the slip risk, even when water or oil is present, making it safe for use around kids, cars, and anything else you have going on in your busy schedule.
Q: I want a specific color base coat. Can you customize the color of epoxy?
A: Absolutely! One of the great things about epoxy, as we’ve mentioned before, is that it’s so versatile. We can add colors, decorative flakes, and more to the resin before it’s poured so your options are near limitless. And the color options are just as expansive. Anything blue to red to beyond can be added to the resin to make the epoxy floor you’ve always wanted a reality. Let your imagination run wild!
Q: What rooms can I use epoxy flooring in?
A: The short answer: almost any room can become an epoxy floored room. Because it is resistant to stains and so easy to clean, most people find it useful in car garages. But it can also be used in a kitchen, dining room, foyer, and more. It can be designed to fit any room aesthetic, so there’s no need to worry that it’ll stick out like a sore thumb. It can be a visually appealing and affordable option anywhere you frequent.
